| I've gained 22 pounds. My baby is still up high which I hope is why my tummy measured 31 cm for 27.5 weeks! |
Another week down, 12ish weeks to go. I feel like I'm running out of time. I still haven't bought anything for baby or finished putting together the baby quilts. My husband has a goal date of Valentine's Day to have our room remodeled and then I can set up baby's area in our room. I think I'm afraid to buy anything because I'll want to buy more and more after that. I almost bought some tiny purple socks but I resisted. We still haven't decided on a girl name. I'm afraid to choose one because with each of our girls we changed it during the last month. I think I love a name and then I talk myself out of it. My husband doesn't have a favorite name yet either. Why are girls so much harder for us to name than girls?
I went to see my midwife for my 28 week appt. She said my iron level is OK but I should try to get more iron in my diet. It's not low because of a B-12 or Folate deficiency which was relieving. I ordered some chlorophyll to take to try to up my iron levels. I am also going to stop taking calcium with breakfast when I eat spinach because it can block absorption of iron. I will take Vitamin C instead. I will take the chlorophyll with my afternoon snack and another Vitamin C to up my absorption rate.
| We picked up gift bags from Target and Baby's R Us. I always forget how tiny newborn diapers are! |
I don't have to take the Glucose Tolerance Test but I do have to get my fasting blood glucose under 90 and track some postprandial numbers each week to show her at my next appointment. If I can't get the fasting glucose down, it was 92 yesterday, she will order an aic test. She encouraged me to stop worrying about eating too much protein and keep my carbs to 30-35 per meal. Oh, my fasting glucose was going above 100 but then I cut out dairy and it was down 15 points the next day! I'm hoping that a few more dairy free days will bring it down so I don't have to cut carbs even more.
Every time I have cut carbs my muscle cramps come back. I've been holding water so I think I'm just not hydrating well enough. My new goal is 1 gallon(!) of water a day plus my pregnancy tea and other hot tea. I'm also going to up my sodium level since I'm dropping the carbs and try adding potassium as I lower my 2 a day banana habit to 1 a day. I will eat one avocado to replace the potassium from the banana. I'm already taking cal/mag and taking Epsom salts baths to help keep the cramping away but they still try to attack whenever I lower my carb level. I hope to find the right balance of water retention, blood glucose control and carb intake in a week or two.
I appreciate my midwife as she listens to my concerns and desires and works with me and even keeps me from feeling like a "difficult" patient. I intend to thank her for working with me at my next appointment. It was difficult for me to go in to see someone and give up the total control I have had over my last three pregnancies. I feel like we are working together to reach our goal instead of me having my "condition" managed.
Most of us are suffering in varying degrees from the flu right now so I didn't get my usual amount of exercise although I have been busier than usual taking care of all the sick cranky people. I feel pretty good but will be making more of an effort to get some rest each day.
