The Book of Books by Trevor Dennis

The Book of Books, The Bible Retold by Trevor Dennis

The cover of this children's hardcover book states, "a deceptively simple and brilliantly imaginative retelling of the stories that make up the Bible.", and that is exactly what you will find in The Book of Books; 12 chapters containing over 100 popular Bible stories retold with all of the details you imagined as you read the story from the Bible. Each chapter has a brief introduction to help the reader know where he is and who the main characters are before he begins the stories in that section.  You will find a list of Bible references in the back if you would like to know where in the Bible the real story is found.

We enjoyed this book.  I am using it as a read-aloud book with my children.  They find the extra details in each story interesting and sometimes funny.  I did find myself cautioning them that some of the things we read in the story were imagined and not in the original.  It's kind of like when you read a great book and then watch the movie version.  It's fun to point out the differences in details.  I like to read Bible story-books to my children but we also read the real story from the Bible.  I think The Book of Books is a fun way to get children more interested in the Bible.
