TOS Crew Review: We Choose Virtues

We received a few items from We Choose Virtues to review.
Virtue Clues- These cards are business sized sturdy cards.  There are 12 cards, one for each virtue, conveniently placed in a clear plastic card holder.  Each virtue card is colorfully illustrated and contains a sentence explaining the virtue, the opposite of the virtue and a clue on the back to remind the child of the proper behaviour.

Kids of Virtue Coloring book- This book is made up of one coloring page for each virtue character and a few fun activities.

List of memory verses- a memory verse for each virtue and a Bible hero who illustrates each virtue.

An Assessment quiz- Rate yourself or family on each virtue.

Teacher's Guide- Explains in 4 simple steps how to teach virtues.  It also teaches you how to use the tools offered by We Choose Virtues.

To use the virtue cards I printed the coloring books, quiz, and memory verses.  I explained the virtues as I filled out the quiz to see where we were starting as a family.  Then I chose one virtue to start with and passed out the coloring page for it.  I explained the virtue and the children and I practiced how and how not to use the virtue obedient.  The children then colored the coloring page.  We kept the Obedient card out in a convenient spot so we could review it throughout the day.  We followed the suggestions in the Teacher's Guide and focused on one virtue per week.  Whenever a child was having a problem being obedient it was easy to grab the card and read off the reminder of what obedience means.

I felt the cards were a simple but effective tool.  The cards are easy enough to take with you anywhere and make a great reminder of what the virtue is for the week when you see it. I think incorporating virtue training in daily family life and homeschool is important and We Choose Virtues offers some helpful tools with a positive focus to the Christian family.

I used the cards with my children ages 3-11 but the company lists them as useful for up to age 18.  I don't think my teen would want to use the cards but I can include him in any discussions we have about the virtue we are working on.
