TOS Crew Review: Kinderbach

We had the opportunity to review KinderBach again this year.  My 3 year old and 5 year old were my main testers.  I found my 8 year old watching most of the lessons with her younger brothers.

Kinderbach is a child friendly music program for preschool age children.  The beginning lessons teach things you need to know later when you begin learning to play the piano, such as high and low notes, loud and quiet sounds, and rhythm.  The lessons are taught in simple ways that even my 3 year old can understand.  Workbooks are available to download which you can then print out and use with the lessons.  One lesson taught high and low sounds.  As the child listens to the sound he is instructed to color an apple on a drawing of a tree if it is a high sound or color one of the apples on the ground if it is a low sound.

My children enjoyed acting out the songs with the people on the video.  I remember from last year that my then 4 year old learned Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star from hearing it played to him many times and my 3 year old is already picking up the lyrics this year.  He likes to sing so this program is very interesting to him.

I thought the activity books were well done and the children enjoyed doing the worksheets during the video lessons.  The activities complement and reinforce each lesson well.  Each level has a workbook and there are also two coloring books available which you can download and print.

Kinderbach has four songbooks available for an additional purchase price; Everyday Songs, Patriotic, Hymns and Christmas.

KinderBach is made up of 6 levels of 10 weeks each and is available for home or classroom use.  Level 7 is in the works now and should be available soon.  Here is a link to the Syllabus laid out by level so you can see what is covered in this program.  You can also try the first two weeks of level 1 free.

One fun feature of Kinderbach is each key in the scale is assigned it's own special character.  The child learns where each character lives on the keyboard and which finger is used to play the note.  The first character the children meet is Dodi.  He lives on the D key.  A house is made for him between the two black keys.  My children learned quickly where to find Dodi's house.  You can meet the characters here.

Children learn by doing and listening and KinderBach combines both senses to teach your child.  Concepts are taught through games to make them easier to understand and fun to learn.  The video lessons are interactive.  The child will do things like clap along to the rhythm, stand up for high notes, stoop down for low notes, and sing along.
