Homemade Holiday

I spent yesterday cutting out many things to sew.  I think I have all of the gifts for the children planned out.  Our budget for their gifts is zero dollars this year but I can use what I have in our home to make things for them.  We decided that they would not get any toys because they don't take care of the ones they have very well , so I had to come up with more practical gifts that I could sew.

Here is what I decided to make:
Pillowcases in fun fabrics for all of them
Lavender sachets for the girls
Headbands and scrunchies for the girls
Hat and scarf sets for the three youngest boys
A wallet for the middle boy
Shoe fresheners for the teen boys
Paper craft books we downloaded and printed
And a few books for each of the younger six which I bought at the thrift store last summer.

If I have time and find something I like I will make them each an ornament.

For stocking stuffers we will buy(funded with the grocery budget) them each a chocolate, nuts, and citrus fruit.

Now don't feel that my children are deprived, they are getting treats, making ornaments, and receiving little gifts and extra time with mom and dad every night during advent.  I want the Christmas season to be more about what we do as a family and give to others than what they get on Christmas morning.

I'm going to spend some time sewing today and when I've made a bit of progress I'll share pictures of what I made along with links to the free patterns I'm using.
