Book Review

A Century Turns
New Fears, New Hopes--America 1998-2008
By William Bennett

I received a complimentary copy of this book to review from Thomas Nelson.

A Century Turns starts in 1988 with George H. W. Bush's campaign for president and ends with the election of Barack Obama as president of the United States.  Many of the events of the last twenty years, although important at the time, have now been mostly forgotten.  The author weaves them together in a way that helps you see how the flow of history has impacted our present time.

Twenty years ago I was in my teens and mostly oblivous to politics so this book filled in the gaps for me.  I really enjoyed reading the beginning of the book and linking events that I remember with the ones that I didn't know about.  It gave me new insights into the current state of our national politics.  Even the middle of the book which covered many things that I remember had a few surprises that helped me put that time period into proper perspective.  This book would be a great way for the younger generation to quickly catch up with our nation's political state of affairs.
