I just strained about 10 ounces of
Valerian tincture. If you buy it from the health food store that would cost at least $80.00. I made my own for approximately $5.00! Awesome. It is super easy to make an herbal tincture. I'll show you how.
Ingredients:
Alcohol cheapest, strongest you can find. I use vodka.
Herb/herbs of your choice(I'm making a
Siberian ginseng tincture.)
Water

Fill the jar 1/3 to 1/2 full of herbs. You can use dry or fresh.

Pour hot water over herbs just 'till they are moistened.

Top off the jar with the alcohol.

Cover and label. I write the date I started the tincture instead of the finish date so I know exactly how long the batch has been brewing.

Place in a cool dry place for 6-8 weeks. Preferably where you will see it occasionally so you remember to shake it once in awhile.

Strain. I use a coffee filter.

Label and use within a year or so.

See how easy that was! It is easier than cooking dinner for your family or even just yourself.
If you are worried about the alcohol content you can add it to a hot beverage to remove most of the alcohol. I usually add any nutritive tinctures to my herbal tea jar before I pour the hot water into it. A dose of tincture is usually very small so the alcohol doesn't really have any effect.
I feed the used herbs to my chickens so they are recycled into my garden. I have not observed my chickens directly after giving them the alcohol soaked herbs so...
