Two of the little guys standing behind the corn so you can see how tall it is not. You can see the chicken coop in the background. The children worked together to paint it a few weeks ago.
Here is the veggie garden from the same angle as last month. See that patch of empty dirt in front of the veggie garden? That is my next area to work on. We need to bring in about six yards of compost to make it usable. Then I will plant a bunch of corn and warm season crops. Can't wait!
*please excuse my lack of hose etiquette. I hate winding hoses back up and just leave them laying around when I'm finished watering.
I planted sunflowers, hollyhocks, and foxglove in front of the coop fence. I love sunflowers and also planted some on the far side of the garden. It should be a pretty backdrop in a few months. I also have some nasturtiums planted with the sunflowers and in my veggie beds. Have you ever eaten a nasturtium leaf or flower? They are a pretty addition to a salad and have a peppery flavor.
I laid down some soaker hoses in the veggie beds. I hope they will provide enough water. We are on a well so I can water as much as I want. That is why we don't have the typical southwest look going on in our yard. We are in a farm area that has irrigation canals running through it.
